Haven't seen The Ugly American in years, thanks for the reminder. My late uncle spent a great deal of time in Thailand and so loved the country and its people, so I wish I could share this with him.
ReplyDeleteQuite a few actually. Thanks for sharing this fun fact.
ReplyDeletehappy tt!
ReplyDeleteAh Lady Rose, on my way to your charming blog :)
ReplyDeleteNow I'm getting more curious with The Ugly American.
ReplyDeleteI have seen three, maybe four of these. The Killing Fields, Good Morning Vietnam and Bridget Jones for sure, and I think I've seen Tomorrow Never Dies. Thanks for visiting!
ReplyDeleteI have seen quite a few of those movies!
ReplyDeleteHappy TT!
i dont recall ever seeing any of these movies you've mentioned...
ReplyDeleteAdd these movies as well! I think they were also filmed in Thailand.
ReplyDeleteStreet Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li starring Kristin Kreuk
Kickboxer starring Jean Claude Van-Damme
i think Hangover 2 was shot in Thailand too right? Hilarious movie.. haha!
ReplyDeleteWell Thailand is one good country to do a movie and Thailanders are good movie makers as well
ReplyDeleteWhy do I think most of those listed are full of running-after-the-lead-actor films? Seen a handful from the list...Yes, The Legend of Chun Li and Kickboxer were also filmed there. Happy Weekend H!
ReplyDeletewatched some on your list, been to Thailand and i understand why many choose to film there. rich culture and cheap finds.
ReplyDeletei like ]the settings of those films, especially Rambo, why is it that Thailand is their favorite place to shoot films?
ReplyDeletei have seen some of thwm and one of my favorite is "Good Morning Vietnam" by Robin Williams .Nice movie. i can watch it again and again with hubby.
ReplyDeletewow, there are a couple of good ones. I've seen the hangover, bangkok dangerous, Bridget and Tomorrow Never Dies.
ReplyDeleteJust asking, any popular movies done in the Philippines? :))
There's a lot in the list huh! Thailand is a very beautiful country, as I've heard from my cousins. They got to visit Thailand for a short vacation. I have seen Tomorrow Never Dies several times ( i used to work as an usherette at a cinema ). =)
ReplyDeleteI think I've seen Tomorrow Never Dies. Anyway, nice post. :)
ReplyDeleteThe only movies Ive seen which are on the list are The Beach (2000) Leonardo DiCaprio and Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) Pierce Brosnan. I heard some of those you mentioned but I havent watched those yet. :)
ReplyDeletei haven't see any of these movies but nice trivia, i will look for some copy.
ReplyDeleteit's a free country in Thailand it was no surprise that it will invited a lot of tourist and directors too, nice share
ReplyDeleteWatched a handful of these movies especially the Bond movies.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, let me quote Wikipedia, "the availability of elephants, exotic jungle and beach settings, relatively low production costs, and a mature domestic film industry that provides a legion of experienced crew members, have made Thailand an attractive location for many Hollywood films and other foreign productions."
ReplyDeleteRight! I'm wondering too :)
ReplyDeleteIf you can watch Good Morning, Vietnam again and again, then I'm curious about the film.
ReplyDeleteThe theme from the Deer Hunter, Cavatina, is our (h&w) theme music (no lyrics so not a song). It is actually my favorite classical guitar piece. :)
ReplyDeleteEver wondered if there's any film that shows the ugly side of say, Marbel? Kidding. Of course there isn't. As you didn't indicate at least ever having been physically to this "ugly side of Bangkok Thailand," to be credible in saying so, I reckon it would have been nicer if you sounded like you did some research before putting in your comment the way you did.
ReplyDeleteCavatina is such a beautiful classical guitar piece. I was playing it on the piano for ages and actually didn't know it was, if I remember my reading accurately, originally written for guitar :)
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend to you too, M!
ReplyDeleteIt was. It's 11th on this list :D
ReplyDeletewe are the same as movie lovers! old movies i love! but here on your list, i still haven't watch #s 5, 11, 12 and 13. i will try to find dvd's copies of these. one of i remember , song for Around the World in Eighty Days
ReplyDelete"Around the world I’ve searched for you,
I traveled on when hope was gone to keep a rendezvous.
I knew somewhere, sometime, somehow,
you’d look at me and I would see the smile you’re smiling now." :)
How nice! My mother and her siblings sing that often via karaoke. That's where I learned the tune and some of the lyrics :)
ReplyDeleteFrom the list, I've watched a few and agree that Thailand has attractive locations for film. I loved The Beach setting-though almost like Coron in Palawan. I think the Philippines has a lot of potential, too. Curious about Bangkok Dangerous and The Ugly American as I haven't seen them.
ReplyDeleteHi Hazel! I think it's cool that you've been to the locations. The one's I've watched are: Alexander, Rambo, The Beach and Tomorrow Never Dies. Hah, 4! Not bad I guess hehe. Nice list!
